A major aircraft OEM sought an electromechanical actuator that could draw a level of electrical power required of next generation fighter aircraft flight controls. Our team needed to develop an actuator to meet requirements for high power and bandwidth currently performed with hydraulic actuation. This advance is one of the critical technologies being utilized by the US Air Force Research Laboratory to support an energy-optimized aircraft power and thermal system.
Whippany Actuation Systems developed a 45kW dual redundant controller and electromechanical actuator using proprietary design elements and commercial off the shelf hardware to achieve the highest power actuation system of all participants in the customer’s research program. Whippany’s actuation system was supported by mission and segment level simulation models and we succeeded in delivering hardware to meet a rigorous program schedule.
